Dr Asim Safdar MB BS(Lond), AICSM, DFSRH, MRCGP
General Practitioner, Luton
Dr Asim Safdar graduated from Imperial College School of Medicine, London in 2003. He completed his Pre-registration House Officer posts in Charing Cross Hospital, London and West Middlesex University Hospital, Middlesex before moving on to work as an A&E Senior House Officer in 2005 at Whipps Cross University Hospital, London - one of the busiest A&E departments in the country. He then completed a medical rotation in Queen Elizabeth II Hospital, Hertfordshire working in Elderly Care, Cardiology and Gastroenterology. He then joined the East of England Deanery GP Vocational Training Scheme in Luton and gained his MRCGP in August 2009. He is currently a GP in a busy practice in Luton. Asim is a keen cricketer and plays for the South Bedfordshire Doctors Cricket Team. He has just been awarded the 2009 Upcoming Player of the Year Award by them.

Dr Talib Mearza MB BS(Lond), DFSRH, DRCOG, MRCGP
GP Partner, Bedford
Dr Talib Mearza graduated from Imperial College in 1998 and embarked on most of his post graduate training at Bedford Hospital. He now works as a full time GP partner at Flitwick Surgery, near Luton. He has set up and currently runs the Diabetic Clinic in Flitwick and has been the Chairman of the West mid-Beds Medical Society for the last two years.
He has currently embarked on a Masters in Medical Education and is in the process of becoming an MRCGP examiner.
He has been with the MDA for the last 5 years but is probably best known as one of the presenters in the Islam Channel's Health Show on Sunday for the last 3 years. |

Dr Avais Jabbar BMedSci (Lond),
MB BS(Lond)
Dr Avais Jabbar recently graduated from Barts and the London School of Medicine and Dentistry. Last year he obtained a BMedSci in Molecular Therapeutics. Throughout university he has been involved with different societies such as SAMDA and is currently doing voluntary work for The British Red Cross. He is also a very keen sportsman and a passionate supporter of Luton Town Football Club. As secretary, he looks forward to the challenging yet rewarding work of the MDA and welcomes you to contact him for any suggestions or queries.

Dr Adnan Safdar BDS (Lond), BSc
Dentist, Leicester
Adnan graduated as a Dentist from King's College London in the summer of 2008. He is currently undertaking his vocational training year in Leicester, UK and working towards the MJDF qualification. Whilst at King's, Adnan also obtained an intercalated BSc in 'Biomaterials'. He has been an active member of the MDA for over 3 years during which time he has been involved with and helped in several events.

Dr Fiaz Hussain PhD (Lond), MSc, BSc (Hons), MBCS
Fiaz graduated from Brunel University (London) and has worked in Germany, as well as Dubai. He has several years of experience in providing IT solutions - specialising in Adobe Photoshop, Flash, Dreamweaver, Premiere and Fireworks. He has authored three technical books and has several published research papers to his credit. Fiaz is currently a senior lecturer at the University of Bedfordshire, responsible for all (over 30) undergraduate computing courses at the University, an employability fellow and a University Provost. Moreover, Fiaz takes an active part in community work and is currently the spokesperson for Luton Council of Mosques. In addition, he has co-ordinated the Luton Faith Walk - helping to improve understanding and mutual respect.

Shamylla Samad MPharm
5th Year Medical Student, Keele, Staffordshire
Shamylla Samad graduated from the University of Bradford, School of Pharmacy in 2004 and worked for a renound multinational pharmacy chain, before pursuing a career in medicine. She is currently a fourth year medical student at Keele University Medical School, Staffordshire. Shamylla hopes to pursue a career in General Practice.
