Trainings

At the Muslim Doctors Association (MDA), we believe that health, wellbeing and inclusion are intertwined. Our workshops and training programmes are built on the principle that care must be culturally safe, faith-aware and community-grounded. Whether you are a healthcare provider, community leader or organisation seeking to embed equity into your work, our three key workshop streams offer tailored support, insight and practical action.

Culturally-Sensitive Health Promotion Workshops

Our health promotion workshops focus on equipping Muslim individuals, families and community groups in the UK with the tools for a healthier life. We cover topics such as nutrition, physical activity, managing chronic conditions, mental wellbeing, and how these interact with faith and culture. Delivered in accessible settings—mosques, community centres or workplace environments—these sessions allow for open discussion, practical screening (blood pressure, BMI, glucose) and culturally-sensitive guidance.

Why they matter:

By meeting people in their cultural context, we reduce barriers to access and build trust. This avoids the “one-size-fits-all” approach and listens deeply to lived experience. Previous sessions have included blood pressure and diabetes screenings, interactive workshops on family nutrition during fasting, and group discussions on mental resilience in faith contexts.

Women’s Health Workshops

Women’s health is a priority for MDA. These workshops are designed for Muslim women across stages of life—adolescence, reproduction, menopause—and integrate clinical insight with faith-conscious discussion. We explore topics such as hormonal changes, menstrual wellbeing, fertility, menopause, and mental health in a safe, inclusive environment.

What happens:

A typical session features healthcare professionals, peer-facilitators and time for open dialogue. We use case-studies, myth-busting, faith-relevant health checks and practical resources tailored for UK Muslim women.

Islamophobia in the Workplace

Prejudice, exclusion and discrimination still impact Muslim professionals in the UK—particularly within healthcare. Research shows that more than two-thirds of British Muslims in employment have faced Islamophobic behaviour at work. Our “Islamophobia in the Workplace” workshop is designed to build cultural safety (not merely competency), empower organisations to respond proactively, and support Muslim staff and patients alike.

Key focus areas:

  • Understanding what Islamophobia is—and how it shows up in healthcare and workplace settings.
  • Embedding inclusive policies, mentoring and reporting-systems for Muslim staff.
  • Supporting culturally sensitive care environments for Muslim patients and staff.
  • Real-world case-studies from NHS settings and community feedback.
