MDA Hosts Stem Cell Donation Drive to Save Lives on 16th November, 2024

The Muslim Doctors Association (MDA), under the leadership of Dr. Hina J Shahid, Chair of MDA, is thrilled to announce a significant initiative aimed at saving lives and raising awareness about stem cell donation. The Stem Cell Donation Drive will take place on 16th November 2024, welcoming individuals from all backgrounds to register as potential donors and make a life-saving impact.

Stem cell donations offer a chance to cure life-threatening illnesses, including blood cancers, immune deficiencies, and other serious disorders. However, the shortage of donors, particularly from diverse ethnic communities, remains a challenge. Through this event, MDA seeks to bridge this gap by promoting awareness and encouraging participation in the donor registry.

Dr. Hina J Shahid, Chair of MDA, emphasised the drive's importance: "Stem cell donation is a simple yet profoundly impactful way to save lives. By diversifying the donor pool, we can provide hope to countless patients awaiting a match. This initiative reflects our commitment to fostering equitable healthcare and community engagement."

Participants will undergo a straightforward registration process, involving a cheek swab to determine donor compatibility. MDA has partnered with leading organisations specialising in stem cell donation to ensure seamless and efficient registration.

Muslim Doctors Association

The Muslim Doctors Association & Allied Health Professionals CIC started off as a small community organization in Luton in 2004 providing free health checks and workshops to local residents.

Over the years we have expanded to include a diverse range of multi-disciplinary healthcare and allied professionals delivering outreach programmes across the UK as well as special projects supporting refugees abroad.
